RHS Chelsea Flower Show – Ticket Design

World-renowned, glamorous and quintessentially British, RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a truly unique and unforgettable day out. Each year visitors to the show enjoy a bumper crop of horticultural wonder over 5 days.

The problem was, the ticket design wasn’t as inspiring nor easy to read, especially as the event was over multiple days. This led to a slower check-in at the gates and ticket fraud.

Solution – a show-stopping ticket design that is easy to read and compostable. Using different colours for different days and a crisp sans-serif font, each day ticket becomes a unique collectible for the visitor. The introduction of a hologram helps to prevent counterfeit tickets and adds a premium feel to the visitors retained piece. A rose is the hologram for this year’s show.

The ticket shows only the relevant information on the front with extra and T&Cs on the reverse, helping keep a clean appearance. A hand-drawn vinca line drawing adorns the background.

The black stub is torn off by officials at the gate, retained by them, and eventually composted for the RHS garden. The tickets use vegetable inks – a more eco-friendly and biodegradable alternative to traditional petroleum oil inks. The black stub, for example, uses soy ink which improves its compostability.
