Channel 4 – Branding
Channel 4’s in house agency 4creative recently launched new branding for the Channel 4 brand. Each identity now incorporates the Lambie-Nairn Channel 4 logo more prominently to emphasise that they are all part of the same company.
While that emphasis has made it clear you are watching a Channel 4 service, it is at the expense of originality, and each channel has lost its character that the previous branding had created. I believe the viewer is smart enough to know they are watching a service provided by Channel 4, and other cues, such as the inclusion of the number 4 helps this.
My brief was to bring back the individual character of each channel, while still making it clear you are watching a Channel 4 service. Each proposed logo takes inspiration from its predecessor and the channel name, with idents to match.
